Gholam Ali Oveisi

Gholam Ali Oveisi (died 8 February, 1984[1]) was an Iranian general during the Pahlavi dynasty, prior to the 1979 Iranian Revolution. On September 7, the Shah appointed Oveisi, then-chief of army staff, as the military governor of the capital city, Tehran.[2]

Following the deposing of King Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Oveisi was one of several Iranian generals who undertook to gain support for a counter-revolution against the new Iranian government in the United States, other Western countries, and the Muslim world. Along with other deposed generals such as Bahram Aryana, Oveisi sought out allies, such as Iran's enemy, Baathist Iraq.[3]

Oveisi was assassinated, along with his brother, on 8th February, 1984.[1]
